Homecoming is an important weekend and a great time to focus on the many alumni who have spent time on our campus. However, there would be no alumni without educators, which is why we set out to ask professors what motivated them to choose this profession.

This week marks 90 years since Carter G. Woodson first promoted the idea of Negro History Week as a chance to honor and celebrate the struggles and accomplishments of the African-American community. It would take 43 years for it to become a full month and another seven after that before the government recognized it as such. In this week’s Spectator Sound-Off, students were asked what Black History Month meant to them.

Sometimes it’s easier to focus on what we don’t have, rather than what we do have. At this time of the year, it’s important to take time out and remember all of the things to be thankful for that many of us take for granted. Students were asked to comment on what they are thankful for in this season of life.

The selfie stick trend has extended itself to the top of the photography world. From friends wanting to take a group photo to adventurers at the tops of the tallest skyscrapers, this invention allows people to get everything they want inside their photo. Students and faculty were asked to comment on this new craze.
