This December has a movie worth watching come out every weekend. It is shaping up to be an expensive month for avid theatre-goers. This list will cover the first two weekends.

The first weekend, Dec. 6, sees the release of two notable films: “Inside Llewyn Davis” and “Out of the Furnace.” “Inside Llewyn Davis” is a Coen brothers’ film that follows a singer/songwriter who experiences New York in the 1960s. It has won many awards and is most likely going to be a contender for the Best Picture Oscar.

MUW's first Reindeer Run

On Thursday, Nov. 21, some of Santa Claus’ reindeer were running around campus, but you didn’t have to call the North Pole because it was for a good cause.

Erin Dollars, a graduate student assistant, helped develop MUW’s first-ever “Reindeer Run.”  The purpose of this event was to help a local church food bank provide food for families who are in need during the holidays.

Why Alan Moore is Wrong about Superhero Films

Alan Moore, writer of beloved graphic novels like Watchmen and V for Vendetta has recently proclaimed his distaste for superhero films such as “The Avengers.”

He told The Guardian:

“I hate superheroes. I think they’re abominations. They don’t mean what they used to mean. They were originally in the hands of writers who would actively expand the imagination of their 9 to 13-year-old audience. That was completely what they were meant to do and they were doing it excellently…I think it’s a rather alarming sign if we’ve got audiences of adults going to see the Avengers movie and delighting in concepts and characters meant to entertain the 12-year-old boys of the 1950s.”

WMUW is back.

After being off the air for a-week-and-a-half, the station is up and running at 80 percent of its original power. Engineer Bill Fulgham has been helping Eric Harlan, a communication professor in charge of the student radio station, with the repairs.

The talent show to help raise awareness of HIV/AIDS was a success thanks to teamwork and combined efforts.

The talent show took place on Nov. 12, at Rent Auditorium. It was on the second day of HIV/AIDS Awareness Week. The purpose of this event was to educate students about this topic while having fun at the same time.

The senior art show will consist of six seniors presenting their bodies of work in the Eugenia Art Gallery, which is located in the campus’ art department.

The annual art show is a chance for seniors to discuss and exhibit their work to the public and student body alike. But as with any portfolio, streamlining a four-year career into a short discussion and a handful of work takes preparation and understanding the nature of the work as a reflection of the artist.

MUW has now launched the Lunch Express workout series, which features 30-minute workout sessions that are held during lunch hours.

The classes are free and open to MUW faculty, staff and students. The classes were added after a survey given to faculty and staff earlier this semester. Classes that are currently being offered are core, yoga and PiYo classes, which is a mixture of Pilates and yoga.

Celebrating 40 years of excellence

The Department of Nursing commemorated 40 years of nursing Thursday night with a dinner to reminisce on the progress the department has made since its first chartered class in 1973.

According to Dr. Shelia Adams, dean of the College of Nursing and Speech Language Pathology, the first chartered class only had 53 students. Since then, more than 5,000 students have graduated, and last year 400 students walked across the stage with a diploma.
