Veterans at MUW

Mississippi University for Women has received top rankings and landed on quite a few important lists this year, including several compiled by U.S. News & World Report. 

One of the recent high rankings was for “Best Colleges for Veterans.”  MUW ranked No. 10 for Southern regional universities. The rankings are split into four regions: North, South, Midwest and West. To achieve this ranking, colleges had to meet certain criteria and participate in federal initiatives to help veterans lower the cost of school.

Buying clothes as a woman has always been hard. It seems that no matter where I shop, I’m never completely able to find something to accommodate my hour-glass figure. My shirts are always too tight, too revealing or too big, while my bottom fights to squeeze into anything. It’s as if companies have forgotten the word “stretch” in making clothing, particular for women over a size zero.

"The Good Doctor"

The MUW Department of Theater’s production of “The Good Doctor” kept the audience laughing last week.

The play was performed from Nov. 7-9, and was directed by Lee Crouse, a visiting assistant professor in the theater department. Although it was written by an American author, it features the work of a Russian writer.

After “The Avengers” swept audiences away, Marvel Studios has been hard pressed to deliver films that can live up to rising expectations. Thor’s latest adventure does not disappoint.

The original cast returns, with the exception of Joshua Dallas in the role of Fandral. Dallas was replaced by Zachary Levi (“Chuck”). Hemsworth, Hiddleston, and Anthony Hopkins are in top form, with the Shakespearean undertones in full swing. The dynamic between Thor, Loki, and Odin is as compelling as ever, and the fallout from the events of “The Avengers” weighs heavily on them all.

Jasmine Edget believes she has found, “the one.” The person she says is her better half. Someone she can depend on, trust and love for a lifetime. Now she thinks she knows for certain, because she and her partner, Shauntiqua Harris, have been in a committed relationship for almost a year and a half. They have become best friends. In the process of learning new things about each other,  they have also learned things about themselves. 

Relieving Stress the Healthy Way

Brittany Twilley knows what it means to have a heavy course load. As a junior studio art major with an emphasis in painting and drawing at Mississippi University for Women, she is well aware of the importance of college students finding balance. She has given up the luxury of going to social events, joining social clubs and sororities and even participating in more than 70 organizations on campus so that she could take the required night classes and lessen her stress.

Halloween Town

Halloween Town was spreading all across the MUW campus on Oct.29. Celebrities, childhood favorites, and monsters flooded the inside of Limbert Assembly Room. It was the annual Halloween Dance Party, sponsored by the Student Programming Board and the Hearin Leadership Program.

The Blacklist Alumnae Association held its first-ever Rattle ‘Dem Bones Fun Run’ and ‘Walk for Be The Match’ on Oct. 29, on Mississippi University for Women’s campus.

This event allowed the participants to dress up in their own Halloween costumes, and prizes were awarded by age groups. Prizes for the event were donated by local businesses around Columbus such as gift cards to Sweet Peppers, The Grill, Skatezone and many more.
