One of my favorite things about MUW is the fact that traditions are abound. Whether it’s a social club’s pastime or the Magnolia Chain ceremony, most everyone participates in some kind of long-standing custom on campus. Not only do these traditions include areas of participation, but they also incorporate legends that have been passed down since the W opened.

Living in the Deep South is never something that causes me embarrassment. Whether living abroad in Brussels, Belgium for a summer, riding a train through Washington, D.C, walking down the streets of New York City or drinking lemonade on the Amalfi Coast, I’ve never tried to deny my heritage, not even my slow, syrupy sweet Southern drawl. Though I must admit, being asked to say certain words a million times does become annoying.

As the end-of-the-year blockbusters near release, the smaller films are beginning to be ignored. “The Counselor” is one such film that deserves more attention than it has been given.
The film sports a dream team of cast and crew that elevate it above the simple plot. Penned by author Cormac McCarthy (“No Country for Old Men”) and directed by Ridley Scott (“Black Hawk Down”, “Gladiator”), the planets had seemingly aligned. Add an all-star ensemble consisting of Michael Fassbender (“X-Men: First Class”), Javier Bardem (“Skyfall”), Cameron Diaz, Brad Pitt and Penélope Cruz, and it has even greater potential.

The Student Government Association has been busy during the month of October helping MUW students as well as others in the community.
More than $400 was raised during Oktoberfest to donate to the Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi, thanks to the participants of the bachelor and bachelorette bidding. The SGA sponsored this portion of Oktoberfest and was very pleased with the outcome.

Finding purpose and meaning in life was the focus of Po Bronson’s speech at Friday night’s Welty Gala. Bronson was the speaker at MUW’s annual fundraiser dinner for the Eudora Welty Chair of Humanities.
Several distinguished guests from the Golden Triangle area went to the gala along with the Welty Symposium writers and the students from the Ina E. Gordy Honors College.

Today it seems every time I turn on the television, read a headline or scroll through my Facebook feed, I see the name Miley Cyrus.
It appears that everyone from my high school classmate to Sufjan Stevens has something to say in regards to the twerking, tongue-licking character Cyrus has become.
