Men’s basketball aims for more postseason success in tournament
Mississippi University for Women’s men’s basketball is set to play in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference semifinals after clinching the No. 2 seed in the postseason tournament.
This playoff move comes after the Owls’ 80-60 win versus SLIAC’s leader, Webster University, during the Feb. 21 game. The Owls’ season record now stands at 15-10, and the team’s SLIAC record is 11-5. The team is led this year by incredible performances from multiple players, such as Trey Huguley and Devin McCain.
Huguley has led the Owls this season in points, scoring 22.7 points per outing while also leading the team in boards, grabbing 11.8 missed shots per game. McCain is also putting up impressive offensive numbers, averaging just under 16 points per game this season.
In total, the Owls have four players who are averaging double-digit points, which translates to incredible offensive output as a team. However, as impressive as the Owls have been on offense this season, they have been equally solid on defense with Joe Haze Austin leading the pack in both steals and blocks, getting an average of 3.5 steals per game while blocking 1.7 shots per night.

Seniors Mia Bowen, Calysia Phillips and Conley Langford said goodbye to their time at Mississippi University for Women, following successful and historic career highs. Bowen entered the last game as the second in the nation in total blocks, while Langford held on to her record of points and rebounds. Phillips finished off her senior year with six points and four rebounds in last Saturday’s game.

The Lady Owls basketball team comes in with a season record of 8-16 and a SLIAC record of 5-11. But despite that, there have been some incredible individual performances by the Lady Owls this season, such as Bowen, Langford and Phillips.
Even though this season did not end the way the team imagined, there were strengths on the offensive and defensive sides that made players shine during many moments. Now, the Lady Owls enter the offseason, where there is sure to be a focus on the strengths and weaknesses that led the 2025-2026 season into the SLIAC.
