Brooklyn Rhodes pitching against Sewanee

The Mississippi University for Women softball team is having a very impressive year, with a record of 18 wins and 12 losses.

Three Owls’ softball team players have been named Owl of the Week this spring semester— Anna Sandlin, Brooklyn Rhodes (x2) and Phallyn Clark. Rhodes is having a spectacular year from the plate, batting .413 and hitting a team-leading three home runs for the Lady Owls.

Rhodes is also having a great year from the rubber for the Owls, pitching 21 innings with an outstanding ERA of 2.3. Avery Bryerly has also been a standout pitcher this season, throwing 17 innings with a low ERA of 1.58. The Lady Owls are 8-2 in conference play this year, positioning them for a strong postseason run.

Saving the most impressive statistic for last, the Lady Owls have 12 players with a fielding percentage of 1.000 this season. For anybody who does not realize what that means, the Lady Owls played world-class defense in the field this season.

The W’s men’s tennis team has a record of 2-9 this season, and it approaches the upcoming Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) South tournament.

While the season has not been what they hoped it would be, the Owls have put in a lot of hard work laying the foundation for incredible seasons to come. They have been trending in the right direction lately, and the Owls hope to build on this momentum for the rest of the season.

On April 18 the men’s tennis team took on Huntington. They beat Huntington in a thriller with a score of 4-3, and two weeks before this, at their previous match, they defeated Westminster College with the lopsided score of 6-1. Jaylen Lewis, who helped secure a win for number two doubles and number three singles, has been named Owl of the Week for April 13.

We wish our tennis team luck as it travels to the conference tournament on April 25 in St. Louis, Missouri.
