“Godzilla vs Kong” is the latest movie in Legendary’s Monsterverse series of movies. It was released to both HBO Max and theatres on March 31. The film pits two of the biggest names in cinematic monster history against each other in a rematch that was more than 60 years in the making. The faceoff mainly consists of Godzilla, the Japanese kaiju from Toho studios that has appeared in more than 30 films since 1954, and King Kong, one of the classic big American monsters from RKO Pictures with more than 10 movies to his name, with other guest competitors along for the ride.

“Godzilla vs Kong” is a movie that has not only been built up over several years by Legendary but also functions as a sequel to its 1962 counterpart “King Kong vs Godzilla.” For all that buildup, this movie delivers immensely. Not only is it one of the best-looking big monster films, but it also is incredibly satisfying. The movie promises big monsters fighting each other, and that is exactly what it showcases. The fights are long, creative, and just an overall joy to watch. There are human characters in the film, but they are much less prominent than they were in the other Legendary monster films, allowing more of the movie to focus on the true stars: the monsters. Both Kong and Godzilla are able to showcase not only their physical prowess but personalities as well through their fighting, and the outcome was an overall satisfying one for fans of either monster.

“Godzilla vs Kong” has proved to be the biggest financial hit in theatres since the pandemic started, raking in around $32.2 million in sales in the United States during its opening weekend.

Overall, “Godzilla vs Kong” is a movie that is great for almost any audience. Fans of the Godzilla, Kong or both will come out of this movie completely satisfied. Even people who have not seen any of the previous movies starring these two behemoths will leave having had a good time. This movie is not a movie focused on a deeper meaning; it is what it says it is. So, if you are looking for a movie that has commentary on destruction, the dangers of radioactivity, or captivity, there is really none of that explored here. It is a fantastic film about monsters fighting each other that will take your mind off the world for two hours and just allow you to have fun.
