This year The W is continuing its cherished tradition of the Magnolia Chain Ceremony.
The ceremony will be held outdoors on Saturday, May 11, at 8 a.m. on the Callaway Lawn. It takes place before the first graduate ceremony, which is at 9 a.m.
“This year we have asked Joey Barnes to come speak to our seniors at Mag Chain about graduating and how to be successful once you are out in the world,” said Katlyn Bryant, Student Programming Board Director.

The Student Government Association is finishing up this semester with events that will recognize students and their achievements at MUW.
First, the SGA, along with Student Life, will be hosting the second-annual Achievement Gala. It will take place on Monday, April 28, at 7 p.m.

The Department of Housing and Residence Life has changed to online housing selections for 2014.
The process lasted from April 14 through April 21. Students were able to log in to housing.muw.edu and create a username and password. Once they completed that task, they completed the housing application in order to receive a room draw timeslot.

Antonio Neves, a motivational speaker, gave a presentation on creating your own luck on Wednesday, April 16, at 6:30 p.m.
The presentation, which lasted around two hours, was held in the Cochran Ballroom on the MUW campus and drew a considerable crowd.
“I teach college students how to create their own luck, said Neves. “This means having amazing experiences on campus and in their careers.”

The Rho Chapter of the Kappa Pi International Art Fraternity hosted its annual High School Invitational Exhibition on Friday, April 11.
The event, held in the Eugenia Summer Gallery in the Fine Arts Center on the MUW campus, was an exhibition of art from area high school students representing Starkville Academy, New Hope High School and Mooreville High School.

The Young Black Leadership Association (YBLA) hosted YBLA Week on April 8-12.
On April 8, the group sponsored karaoke/poetry night in the W room from 8-10 p.m. Refreshments were served. On April 9, it hosted a pool party in Stark Recreation Center from 6:30-9 p.m. Refreshments were also served.

The Department of Health and Kinesiology at MUW hosted National Public Health Week on campus from April 7-11 to educate students on the benefits of healthy living.
This years theme, “Public Health: Start Here,” focused on raising public health awareness.
National Public Health Week is for communities, campuses and organizations across the United States to recognize the contributions of pubic health and highlight issues that are important for improving the health of the nation.

Tina Rogers is a proud alumnus of Mississippi University for Women. She is originally from Indianapolis, Ind., but moved to Columbus, Miss., with her family and pursued her education here at the W. She is currently working at the W as the Coordinator of Online Students in the Business Department. Here, she talks about the W and her experiences as a student here.

The newly designed MUW specialty car tags are now available.
The W used the same car tag design for the past 20 years. The new design features a large “W,” along with the university’s website address. It also features the words “Long Blue Line.”
The new tag was designed by the MUW University Relations Department.

For the past year, Darren Aronofsky’s (“Black Swan”) adaptation of the epic Biblical tale of Noah has been covered in controversy. Large portions of the Christian church have denounced the film as blasphemous. The controversy is unfounded.
From a secular point of view, the film is one of Aronofsky’s best films, and Russell Crowe has rarely been better.
