This Friday, Oct. 4, “Gravity” will be released in theaters. It stars Sandra Bullock and George Clooney as astronauts stranded in space after a Kessler syndrome event destroys their spacecraft.
I have noticed that many people are brushing it aside because they do not believe such a simple premise can be interesting. Here are a few reasons why it will prove them wrong.

The Student Government Association is sponsoring a fun way for students to give and receive at the same time.
During Oktoberfest, the young men and women of MUW will have the opportunity to bid on their favorite bachelor or bachelorette. The student who places the highest bid on a participant will get to go on a date with that person. The money raised will be donated to the Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi.

Last week was certainly an emotional and crazy week in my life.
Last Wednesday, Sept. 18, I turned 22. The following Saturday was my sweet and beautiful big’s wedding. Watching her walk down the aisle surrounded by family and friends, glowing in white, I completely choked up. She has been such a wonderful friend, influence and impact that I couldn’t help but be overwhelmed at the joy I felt for her. Standing next to her as a bridesmaid, I was able to partake in one of the most joyous and important days of her life.

The Hearin Leadership Program which is known for its leadership development and community service is getting a new name and some changes.
“For the 2013-2014 academic year, there will be only minor changes to the program, the primary one being a change in name to the W Leadership Program,” said Jim Borsig, MUW president.

Within the Department of University Relations there are many impressive people. One person in particular is an alumnus of Mississippi University for Women.
Anika Perkins’ name happens to be one that resonates throughout the offices on campus. After receiving her degree from MUW, Perkins decided to return to her alma mater to pursue her career in public relations. If there is information that needs to reach the public, faculty and students, she is the person to contact. Perkins was asked about her experience as a student at MUW.

Sitting in Hogarth Cafeteria surrounded by friends, Ruth Brown appears to be the typical college student. Her easy-going wave hello to others certainly doesn’t bring attention to the notes she’s diligently studying. In fact, someday this material could help her save someone’s life.

At this point in the semester, most have gotten used to the schedules and routines of their days, but at the same time, this is also the time at which a lot of people get overwhelmed. Last week was the first big week for a lot of classes, which means a lot of papers and tests for everyone.

Not only is the weather beautiful, clothing seems to be as well. Southern women seem to have a love for adding a scarf to every outfit during this time of year. I didn’t hesitate to do so with mine, either.
