Here’s what’s happening around town for the week of Oct. 5-11.

Columbus-Lowndes Public Library, 314 North 7th Street, will be having a book sale.

On Thursday, Oct. 9, from 10:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. and on Saturday, Oct. 11, from 10:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

You will find best-selling fiction, histories, biographies, cookbooks, children's books, sports books, self-help books and audio books.

“Awake, My Soul: The Story of the Sacred Harp” will be playing at the Columbus Arts Council,

501 Main Street 39701, on Friday, Oct. 10, at 6:30 pm.

“It is a heartwarming, educational documentary of the great American treasure of Sacred Harp Singing and the people who keep this music and tradition alive,” said to Beverly Norris, projects manager at the Arts Council.

The Magnolia State Cotton Pickin’ speed race will be Friday, Oct. 10 through Saturday, Oct. 11.

Adult admission will be $25; admission for children ages 6-10 is $5; age 5 and under are admitted FREE.

The Magnolia Motor Speedway is located at 495 Hwy 45 South.
