Invest in a winter wardrobe to protect against the cold

When it comes to dressing for these colder months, it usually results in winter clothes being slightly pricier than other seasonal pieces. Although I am an avid bargain shopper, I am also an advocate for investing money in necessary, quality pieces. Although I do most of my regular shopping at stores like Forever21, ASOS or thrift stores, I always try to invest in a couple of quality items every winter. This usually means I will splurge on a coat, boots or a pair of jeans.

Owning a great pair of jeans should be one of the first investments you make for your wardrobe. Don’t settle for a pair of jeans bedazzled with jewels on the pockets or a high waist if that isn’t your style. Having just one pair of high-quality jeans is something that can pull every outfit together without much effort from you.

Being thankful is something that everyone is reminded of during this time of the year.

 

Thankfulness means many things to many people.

 

"Thankfulness means truly appreciating what God has blessed us with," said Elissa Troise-Greco, a general business major. "As Americans, we are so fortunate to have the daily luxuries must of us don't think twice about. I try to remember how lucky I am to have been shown such love and good fortune."

 

It does not take long to pause and think on things for which to be thankful.

MUW students give their opinions about social media

Social media is a huge factor in the world today, and it entertains millions of people across the world.

 

According to Business Insider, older social networks like Facebook and Twitter are gaining older users, whereas new networks like Instagram are gaining younger users, especially college or some college students.

 

Several MUW students were asked questions about social media and how they felt about it.

Graduation is usually defined as the receiving or conferring of an academic degree or diploma. However, this term can mean many things. It can be the end. It can be the beginning. It can be realization of finally being able to help oneself or family. The term means different things to different people. But for most, it means a joyous occasion.

 

“I am very excited about graduation because this is another major accomplishment in my life that is allowing me to take a step closer to my goals and ambitions in life,” said Megan Lee, a public health major from Greenville, Miss.

 

For many, this can be a wake-up call. Like most students, all they have known is school. School has become a way of life for more than 13 years. It has been an integral part of their everyday lives. How will a student react when he or she is thrust into the “real world?”

It’s the centerpiece of many festive meals. A golden brown, roasted turkey evokes feelings of autumn warmth and is one of the most recognizable symbols of the season. Student success navigators help new students adjust to MUW

Leaving high school and taking those first steps into college can be a daunting task. It is the first real time that students are required to take charge of their own lives and figure out where they want to go in the world. It is a lot to handle and students make mistakes their first year in college from inexperience. These mistakes can have a negative effect through the rest of their college career.

This is where the MUW Student Success Navigators come in. They are a new addition to campus, having been started this past summer. Their job is to help students transition to college life, minimize the risk of students making mistakes that could be easily avoided, and to keep students on track academically.

Intercession courses give students flexibility when scheduling classes

Registering for classes and being able to fit them all into one semester schedule can sometimes be a challenge for students. There might be a special topics class that a student is interested in, but it interferes with the other classes being taken that semester.

 

The W has created a way to provide students with more schedule flexibility. The W now offers an addition to the fall, spring and summer semesters through intersession courses.

 

College football brings the best and worst out of people, sometimes myself

I’ve always been a huge sports fan. I like to think that I got it “honest.” My dad and grandfather were big sports fans. One thing we could all agree on is that we loved college athletics.

 

The first shirt that I ever received was a Mississippi State Bulldogs T-shirt when I was a baby from my grandfather.

 

I appreciate all types of sports: football, baseball, basketball, hockey and even soccer. I get different looks when I say that I enjoy soccer, especially during the World Cup and the Olympics.

Opinion: Why all the long-awaited sequels?

Sequels. We all like to see them happen, but we don’t always like them when they do happen. It’s to the point today where you walk out of a theater and you think WHEN is the sequel coming out, not if a sequel is coming out. But it wasn’t always like that.

 

Believe it or not, there was a time that when a movie ended, it was over. You never saw the characters again. The story was wrapped up at the end and that was that. Granted, sequels did happen, but it didn't feel like every other movie being released was a part two or a part three of something that already happened (now we have literal “Part 2” of movies coming out, but that’s a discussion for another day).
